The best local place near me has not reduced portions...they are still large and they have a lot of healthy otions and often two meals worth but he has had to raise prices slightly. It's cheaper to eat their sometimes. They have an awesome haddock fish fry (which you can also get grilled) and it contains a pound of fish, slaw and a side (you can get veggies, salad, fries), etc. At the store haddock costs $8.99 per lb! That doesn't include the breading/seasoning I would use, the energy used to make it, and the cleanup.
Really, I'm glad if they are getting smaller. I would rather have a little appetizer, a small dinner and a little dessert than to have room for only 1/2 a huge entree, and take the rest home to throw out a few days later.
Here in E. N.C., we live in a college town with 218 restaurants. It is cheaper to eat out then cook. However this being said, almost all places everything is fried. I think even the water is fried. lol We have a lot of "chain" and all you can eat restaurants for under $10.00 here. We very rarely go out to eat because I get a better quality of organic food and free range meats and cook at home. My total grocery bill averages between $75-$100 a week and includes everything, and I know who has handled & prepared my food.
