Thai ice tea is really, really good, but it's not real spicy. In fact, it's a perfect foil for spicy food, like if you order something too spicy it's one of the few things that'll cool you down.

I never heard of this tea. Does anyone know if the tea plant itself is spicy, or are spices added to it?

I checked the site that wangdee listed (thank you!) and can't find that info. It sounds delicious! Their recipe page isn't completed yet - plenty of pics of food to cook w/this tea, but no recipes.

I know the other posts are several months old, but are there any other folks out there who've tried this tea?

I hate the stuff. My husband and brothers love it. For me, it's way too cloyingly sweet, and I don't like the ***** canned taste of evaporated milk.
Here's a recipe.

Thai Iced Tea

OK, thanks Debsi. That recipe looks like it'd put one in a coma! Way too sweet for me. I'll try and find the tea leaves themselves, and see if that makes a difference.

I think the word blanked out above must have been "nasty" ! You can't say nasty?

Or perhaps, tinny?

Anyway, Seebee, I don't think Thai black tea leaves are any different than anybody else's tea leaves. What makes this drink known as Thai iced tea is brewing it really strong and mixing it with canned milk.

I love Thai iced tea with the condensed milk. It is extremely sweet, and I am pretty sure that there are spices involved in the teas I have tasted, much like the tea at Indian restaurants. However, it's not the sort of thing I would drink alone, it's too sweet for me. I like it as a foil to a very spicy curry.
