Wow, I don't think I've seen a Woolworth's store since the 1970s, but I do recall the lunch counter there being better than what K-Mart would have.

I said K-Mart only because I don't remember ever eating at a Woolworth's lunch counter when I was a kid.

I never ate at a K-mart Counter but I have at Woolworths. When my mom was a kid she said they had a Tulip Sundae and it was 25 cents I think.

My mother always took me to get a grilled cheese and a root beer float at Woolworth's at the mall after shopping.

Later, when the mall expanded, we moved our ritual to Swensen's Ice Cream in the new part of the mall.

During my senior year of high school I worked at Woolworth cleaning up after they closed. I would always get there in time for a chili dog or a club sandwich, and on Friday I'd get a hot fudge sundae too.
Woolworth's had good candy, nuts (they were warm) and fresh popcorn too.

Woolworth's lunch counters I recall were pretty much basic burgers, sandwiches, and ice cream. Kmart where I grew up had a full meal cafeteria. Couple choices of meats/chicken, 3-4 vegetables, salad, and desert.

Never saw a K-Mart where I grew up.

Woolworth's- yes.

K-Mart, no.

Was K-Mart a national chain?
