When I was growing up my Mother told me that you should eat your lunch at noon and supper at 6PM and not to snack between then because it would spoil your dinner.

It appears that no one is paying any attention to my Mom's advice anymore because when I go to the Mall and walk by the food court it seems like people are eating full meals at the oddest times. When they are eating at 3:30 I want to go up to them and ask, "is this lunch or dinner?"

That is funny. You know I never thought about it until your post and it does seem odd. I remember the same thing when I was a kid. Breakfast, lunch and dinner was to be served at specific times with little or no snacking in between same as your family.

I think nowadays in families with both parents working people eat whenever they can find time in their busy schedules. Now that Im older and the wife and I eat to fuel our bodies for our workouts, we tend to eat 5-6 meals per day so things are different now that we've learned about health and nutrition.

I'm afraid I am often guilty of not eating lunch until mid afternoon , especially if on holidays when sightseeing, or if I had to do something else during lunchtime. I never have breakfast as well so by that time I am usually ravenous. Mind you it also means that I probably won't have dinner as I will still be digesting my late lunch by then....

I guess you could call it "brunchinner" or something like that !

Your Mom is right though, regular meal times are much better for you.

My parents seem to be eating dinner earlier and earlier the older they get. Growing up we always had dinner at 5:30. Now that they are in their late 60's they are eating dinner at around 3:45.

I never really believed in the "breakfast, lunch, and dinner routine"... I say eat when you are hungry and don't eat when you are not... the only rule is probably to eat before 7 PM and nothing afterwards... I do see the merits with that rule...

3:30? That'd be linner, or lupper, or dunch.

i am guessing they woke up at 11 and had "breakfast" which might as well have been lunch
but then by 3:30 it's their "lunch time" and so they are having a relatively big meal
and then they probably have dinner around 9. i mean if they are haning out at the mall, they are probably not working, so no schedule

Of course if it's 4PM or so, it might be the "early bird" specials.

Every so often, we're not hungry at lunch time, so we eat a combined late lunch/early dinner. Ergo, lunner.
