Add me to the list of those who can't do anything liver. Just the smell of them slicing liverwurst at the deli counter is enough to make me bolt for the door. I can't eat sushi either, although it is pretty to look at.

My mother used to eat borcht, which is cold beet soup. She would add a scoop of sour cream to it. YUK!!! It would turn into a pink mess with blobs of white floating in it, which reminded me of curdled milk. I never tasted it because I couldn't get past its appearance. To this day I will not eat beets and I will only eat sour cream if it is disguised in food and I don't know it's there.

Now tongue I could eat. Cold, sliced tongue on rye w/ mustard. YUM!

You keep the tongue but send those beets on down. I'll pickle 'em. Or make Harvard beets. Got to have some color on the plate. I know that the chemicals make up of foods are from the same compounds but.... the mind has a way of having a mind of its own in all of us does it not? Especially when it comes to likes and dislikes of food.

You're absolutely right.

Since tongue looks like a tongue, many people who don't like it can't stand looking at it.

It has to get past my eyes and my nose before it gets near my mouth. Yes, you could have the beets. Borcht with sour cream ruined me for good. LOL.

My Mom used to make hot borscht with sour cream mixed right in, nothing finer on a cold winter day than hot borsct along with black/rye bread and butter.

I didn't know anyone ate it hot. I am sure I wouldn't like that either, since I've been permanently scarred by the curdled milk-looking sour cream floating in shades of pink. There is no way I could get it close to my lips. LOL.

BTW, your spelling looks much better to my eye than mine. It must have an "s" in there, as you put.

I know what you mean about the look, I guess when you're introduced to it as a small child and Mom says Eat!, you get over it quickly Children in some ways are probably a little more adventurous than adults.

I have yet to figure out if the hot vs. cold thing is a difference in cultures or households.

The only way I like beets are pickled. But what is the difference with Harvard beets? I thought they were the same thing.
