I would say that mostly I use recipes as a guide. I like to have them as a base to get ideas and then I jus modify them from there. I do "wing it" occasionally as well. If I'm making something I've never done before and am not familiar with then I will most likely follow the recipe pretty closely. So I guess you could say I do a little bit of everything depending on the situation.
I use recipes as a starting point. I love the websites that have reviews posted by people that made the dish. I usually read those and take some of the suggestions.
I am not a big baker though and I've learned, the hard way, that in baking you need to actually stick to the recipe and measure!
Recipes are usually a guide for me. I always add or delete according to taste and sometimes I measure, sometimes I just eyeball it. Most of it depends on my mood or if it's a brand new never tried before dish.
