I've been craving that specifically for about a month now and it gets worse every day! Guess I'll have to give in soon.

The particular restaurant I go to is now pretty far from me since we moved, so I'm going to try to wait until I can meet up with a friend or something and make it an event!

I tried going to a closer restaurant a few weeks ago and sadly it did not satisfy my craving at all. The mushroom sauce looked and tasted like it had been made with one of those pouches of instant dry mushroom gravy, the schnitzel wasn't pounded flat and seemed like it had been deep fried instead of pan fried, the spaetzle were bland and sticky and covered in rough-chopped parsley, and I didn't like the sauerkraut either (but I am super picky about kraut). It all seemed very Americanized, almost like a parody of German food. Which is a shame because the staff was great, really friendly, and I wish I could give them my business instead of driving halfway across town.

But over there, the schnitzel is crispy perfection, the sauce is divine - rich and creamy and full of fresh mushrooms, the spaetzle are tender and tasty little morsels, delicately browned (I'm guessing in butter), with the perfect amount of "tooth" when you bite into them. And the sauerkraut is so good even sauerkraut haters like it! And they have German beers on tap. You would not believe how bad my mouth is watering right now! I can't even let myself think about the desserts! Or the bratwursts with that incredible mustard... arrrgh!

OK, I gotta go call my friend. Enabler!

I've been craving a big casserole-sized homemade chicken pot pie, but it's too hot to fire up the big oven.

If one of my favorite restaurants doesn't feature it soon, will have to wait until well in to September.
