Is it? I don't see anything wrong with it. I would just put some in a small cup (not filled up) whenever I have a sweet tooth.

if you put it on pancakes or waffles maybe it would be okay. Just to drink it though? it kind of turns my stomach too!

Hey, whatever floats your boat. I've often thought I could drink it, but I'm not sure. Besides, the aftereffects...well, let's not go there.

I'd rather drink a cold beer than swig some maple syrup, but that's just me.

Ewwwwwww!

That's right up there with my mom's friend who, while in the midst of a chocolate craving, would sit down with a tub of chocolate frosting and a spoon.

I guess those in need of a sugar fix will go to any length to get it. Funny. My SIL loves salt so much that she'll pour a bunch into her hand and lick it out. Her brother gave her a salt lick for Christmas one year. So, Mr. Cat, while you might be one of the few willing to drink maple syrup, you're not alone if you take the big picture into consideration.

Mr. Cat, if you like to drink a little syrup now and then, go ahead! Just stick to the real good stuff! My aging stepfather has quite a few health problems, and has lost all sense of smell and taste EXCEPT he can taste just a little sweet. I have seen him drink the leftover syrup out of the little carafe we get when we have pancake breakfasts out. It is one of the only things he can still taste and enjoy.

My 23-year-old son recently confessed that when he was a youngster, he'd sneak into the fridge and drink the maple syrup right out of the bottle. Grossed me out to think of it, but that boy did have a sweet tooth when he was young. I always used to wonder why we went through the maple syrup so quickly, too; didn't recall serving pancakes THAT often.

Of course, whenever he tells me a story like that, I always caution him that he's going to have a son who'll be just like he was. And at that point, he generally looks at me and says something like "you must not want any grandchildren."
