I'll bet there is a 'Fried Okra Festival' --perhaps somewhere in central GA? Near Vidalia--they have the annual 'Vidalia Onion Festival' and the towns in this area have similar festivals.

Why haven't Paula Dean's sons told us about this? Their Mama needs to talk to them.

That is a terrifying list--I stop at ham hocks.

Shudder --headcheese--let Anthony Bourdain sit down to a steaming plate of that --I would eat grass before headcheese.

Couldn't resist looking up the okra festival. Not Georgia, but Irmo, South Carolina:

Now that sounds like a winner. Soon as the wife gets home the discussion will start. Thanks for the link. Maybe for once in my life I will get my fill.

I grew up in the north, but most of my working life has been on the gulf coast. Red Beans and Rice and Jambalaya are my faves. Grew up on things like corned beef hash and eggs, oatmeal, and meat loaf.

Now I'm going to have to break into my reserves of boiled peanuts. Not as good as fresh, but my grandmother sends me a few cans of them every year for Christmas.

Southern food wins hands down with a few exceptions.

I don't know where you are but go to a farmers' market and buy fresh green peanuts and boil them/salted water, please. There cannot be enough peanuts in the cans to even 'Get Started' and they just can't have that fresh from the ground flavor.

Maybe you could have some shipped? Go Here>>>

LOL. Around here sometimes people will put a cooker on the back of their pickup and create a roadside stand selling boiled peanuts.
