This thread reminded me of the $20.00 bottle of syrup I saw yesterday at Whole Foods.

For regular pancakes I like just butter and (heated) syrup. Regular table or pancake syrup will do, but I like boysenberry or apricot, too.

Sometimes I like to top my pancakes with fruit and fruit syrup...maybe some whipped cream. I especially like banana slices and sour cream with powdered sugar as a topping.

If I am having pancakes at a restaurant, I sample the syrups to see it they are good or not. I have learned to avoid that wretched butter pecan syrup at IHOP.

I went looking today for a bottle of pure cane syrup. None to be had. Search will continue. Got to be some here in the south somewhere. In-laws may know of a bootleg setup somewhere.... Maybe I should even look in the back of the cupboard to she if wife has a bottle hid and not sharing...

I like to make my own pancakes. I use the recipe from the Fanny Farmer cookbook. They are yummy and perfect every time. Very easy too! I always triple or quadruple the batch! I make them in mini and regular size. Allow any leftovers to cool and put in ziptop bags in the freezer.

Usually I leave the batter plain and we add things like mini chocolate chips or blueberries. I like to pour the batter on the griddle and then add the stuff. Blueberries should be dusted lightly with flour to keep them from turning the batter green.

Add chopped apple with cinnamon and a little (very little) nutmeg for harvest / fall flavor. You could also do this with some applesauce but you have to play with the other wet ingredients to make it work well.

Sometimes I add mashed bananas to the batter for banana pancakes. It is also quite delicious to add chocolate chips to this version. *drool*

On my pancakes, it depends on my mood - butter and syrup, peanut butter & syrup*, jam or preserves, or even some whipped cream &/or fruit.

* - best on waffles but pancakes will do

Pancakes or french toast. This AM I made french toast. Poured on some syrup and then sliced 1/2 banana into small slices, then cut a nectarine into small pieces spread over the top. You can use a peach if preferred. Good combination of fruit for breakfast. Sometimes I will sprinkle a little powdered sugar on top or whip cream. Now that I think back it was more like a desert then breakfast. Anyway to each his own. Bon appetite. Steve

Must be some syrup.

Chocolate chips are good, especially if they are put on while the pancakes are still hot. Then they can melt a bit.

I do like to throw some sesame seeds into my pancake batter sometimes...just for the nutty flavor.

On blueberry pancakes, a blueberry syrup, and on plain pancakes, good old-fashioned maple syrup. And, I usually eat whole grain, dairy and egg free pancakes.
