We used to get a cannoli cake every Christmas from a bakery in north Jersey-it was to die for.

OssoBucco-comfort food! But out here they don't believe in veal. Have to wait til I get back east.

Oh, that would be one thing I would be very sad to leave NY for...Italian food! Bakeries, pastas, sauces... they just don't do Italian as well in other parts... lived down South for a bit... they try... but just can't compete..

Same here in the midwest. Pizza is Domino's,Papa John's or Papa Murphy's. Gravy is jarred and pasta on menus non-existent. Hard being a NYC/NJ girl to handle it.

I've never been to the northeast. Pasta is prevalent on menus in southern California and Texas, but I never think it's as good as what I can make at home, so I seldom order it. (I love pasta and make it at home often)

I am curious to taste your NJ restaurant pasta now!

oh Lacey, I would send you a good pizza pie from one of my Mom and Pop places nearby if I could...LOL... Domino's tastes like a sauce on cardboard!

As a former Rochesterian... I have to agree with almost all of the above!
Charlies provolone cheeseburg on a hard roll with hot sauce & mustard-we get one on every visit home!!
As an Italian, we miss all the Italian specialties that exist in Rochester!
Savoia's bakery, REAL Italian Bread,etc....

This list made me miss home and made me very hungry-as my sauce is cooking away on the stove right now!

Oh... come on... Tom Wahl's Kicks Charlies behind... Savoia's is the only bakery we fequent for REAL cake (the Rum Cake was my wedding cake) Next time you are home try their DING DONG CAKE- tastes Just like a Ding Dong!!!!! mmmmmmm don't know how they do it (it is the cake of choice for BOTH of my kids on thier bdays) And anyone on here interested in the Italian Cookies? They ship them anywhere... they are the best I have ever had by the way (and I am married to an Italian)
