Oh my, I saw one of the shows where the guy was newly wed and she was all over him and he looked very uncomfortable, until he managed to tell her that he just got married and his wife is sitting in the front row.

The fact that she insists to feed them by hand... and then she licks her fingers.

I stopped watching her.

I agree with most of the posts in this thread-

Favorites

Julia Child - she is the original TV chef and will always be the one to measure newer ones against

Jacques Pepin - as stated, the food is the star, not the chef - humility goes a long way

Rick Bayless - He has done so much for educating on real Mexican cuisine - not the slop served in most Mexican restaurants in the U.S. He seems like a fun guy I would not mind having living next door

America's Test Kitchen - While the guy who hosts can get annoying and comes off as arrogant occasionally, I do enjoy learning about how to perfect traditional recipes by watching this show. BTW - anyone could replace the dorky guy who hosts and no one would miss him....the ladies are the heart of that production.

Lidia Bastianich - she makes wonderful food - but she needs to stop including her whole family in her productions. I don't care what wine her fat bald son thinks goes good with osso bucco and I wish she would look into an Eva Gabor wig instead of the comb-over with which she's trying to cover her male-patterned baldness. Other than that - I wish she was my neighbor too.

Daisy - I don't know her last name, but the lady can cook and seems real and down to earth. I enjoy watching her show and wish they would play it more often - anyone who cooks with sofrito is worth watching!

Not-so-favorite:

Bobby Flay - so full of himself I can't stand to watch him
Emeril - aside from what everyone has said so far (thanks to the one who mentioned we know what he sounds like in the sack now!!) every time he mentions the word "gaaah-lick" the audience erupts in applause. Can someone explain this phenomenon to me?
Paula Deen - ditto for me - I liked her in the beginning but she has changed so much for the worse lately
RR - gah!! EVOO! Stoup! Spoonula! I really want to poke firey hot knitting needles into my ears and eyes when this woman speaks - and that stupid "hun-HUH!" laugh she farts out of her mouth ever couple of sentences she speaks makes me want to bat at her face with a grizzly bear's paw. I wish more than anything that this hack (who can't cook anything unless it has a pound of cheese to cover it) would crawl back to wherever it is she came from and spare us for the rest of our years.
The tablescape lady - no one IRL does that crap. Useless recipes to make trashy food from processed ingredients.
Whoever the Food Network's new latina woman with the hoochie coochie boobies is - her performance is so over the top it makes Giada (or even Charo, for that matter) look like an Amish housewife. Decide if you want to be a porn star or cook food. There is no reason to cheapen yourself this way to get ratings or whatever it is they are after - I can't stand to watch this woman.

DontH8-wow and so well said.

I forgot Rick Bayliss-he's awesome.
America's Test is great.
Ellie Krieger-great stuff, low cal.
Lidia's son is an arrogant jerk-her I want to be her kid..
RR-do you believe this bimbo make $18M a year. A 41 yr old with the vocabulary of a teenybopper. Your comment about her laugh almost killed me here. A former Howard Johnson's soda jerk and the term fits.
Paula Deen-is like an over the hill madam, low class and crass.
I still can't get that Emeril visual out of my head!!!!! Yuk.

Thanx for the laughs.
The hoochie coochie one-now that's hilarious.

Justin Wilson-fun to watch but I made one of his recipes once and it made it straight to the garbage can.

Does anyone remember Jeff Smith of the Frugal Gourmet. I thought he was a bit dorky and elaborate in his preparation, but I enjoyed watching his shows. He had a series about food of our immigrant ancestors. He was based in Seattle, I think.

Several male assistant chefs brought charges of sexual harassment against him in the late 90's, although he was never charged with a crime his shows were taken off the air and he disappeared from public life.

MOST FAVORITE:
Alton Brown. Verges on overacting all the time, but he teaches SO MUCH INFO that we've never learned about food!!! I love intellects... Christopher Kimball on PBS I also think is a great teacher.
But I also have a nascent crush on Bobby Flay and Michael Symon -- they're both smart and relaxed, and having fun in life doing what they love; it's great to watch excellence enjoying itself, like Michael Jordan, y'know?

LEAST FAVORITE:
Rachel Ray is a total pest; tie her hands behind her back already, and make her speak like a woman instead of a carnival barker.
Paula Dean is just gross and completely annoying.

The Food Network really doesn't appeal to me anymore. When I first started watching it, the personalities were different. It was truly about cooking and now, it's just outlandish acting. Very boring. The ones I really can't stand are Giada, Paula, Flay, Rachael and Emeril.

I find Michael Chiarello and Ina Garten relaxing to watch. No screaming or theatrics to hype up the show.

My "old time" faves were Ming Tsai (East Meets West) and the two dynamic duos, Two Fat Ladies and Two Hot Tamales. Gale Gand was really mellow and likeable.
