We ate dinners at the table when our kids were growing up. Now that they are grown, DH and I usually eat in front of the TV.

We had Sunday dinners when I was growing up. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and cream gravy, green beans - that is what I think of when I think of Sunday dinner.

But we don't do Sunday dinners. We do go out for brunch often, usually an upscale-ish buffet that includes prime rib, salmon and shrimp. Sometimes DH and I go alone and sometimes we invite our adult kids to join us.

And then I sleep on Sunday afternoon.

I think this is changing nita....

that's how it was in many families years ago,,,but keep in mind before the 19070's most women did not work outside of the home.... so they were the mothers and cooks

also look at the old movies men would retire in another room and smoke and drink.....I don't think that happens today

many men grew up in that tradition...but that's changing..

in our family gatherings we push the younger generations to chip in and ...we all try to chip in doing the dishes,,in fact,,,if the women prepped and cooked the men-folk would take the initiative to clean up ..

now what I do see...is mature women jumping hard on the young ones(women).....not helping or offering to help.... (if they aren't chasing kids around)

more and more gathering outside of the major holidays.....I am seeing more chipping in monies to have pizza's wings .......particularly in the summer... or a family gathering so some aren't stuck in the kitchen while others can visit

I had Italian friends growing up and it was well defined ,,the women did all the cooking and cleaning up..and seemed happy to do it.. (or had little choice and made the best of it)
