Mayo all the way, and it has to be Dukes. Grew up in NC and this what my mom always used. Dukes has no sugar and IMO is the closest thing to homemade. My grandmother often made her own mayo - great stuff!
I can get Dukes from one store here in Cbus but it is way out of the way. I make sure everytime I go back South or when someone from there comes to visit, I check my Dukes supply (among other things) to make sure I never run out!
I buy both for our household. Sometimes I make blender mayo. It's really easy and cheap and my DH prefers it over any store bought. It just scares me a little...eating raw egg.

Homemade mayo is the best but the raw egg component is the probably the very reason as well as convenience why store bought has become the norm. Miss my grandmothers homemade!
Grew up in Kentucky and it was always Miracle Whip. I like the tang of it. But after moving to South Carolina, I got used to the taste of Duke's and used it for a bit. My husband is from Pittsburgh and always used Hellman's. I now use either MW or Hellman's depending on the recipe or what I'm eating.
I use very little mayo so a small jar of either will last me for a year.
I wouldn't touch Miracle Whip with a ten foot pole. I hate the stuff!!!
For mayonnaise, I use Hellmans, but I can't say I'm totally brand loyal. I could use the store brand too. As long as its mayo and not that other stuff, and woof woof, I agree, that miracle whip is crap!!
I was never a Mayo person. It always grossed me out. But then we started trying the healthier versions (canola mayo, safflower mayo, etc.), and we've now been using Vegenaise for years for things like tuna sandwiches and potato salads, etc. It just feels healthier... and has a nice clean taste to it. You can add apple cider vinegar to whatever you're making to add a tangy sort of flavor to it. Follow Your Heart - Home of Vegenaise®our dairy free eggless mayonnaise alternative with no cholestoral and non GMO (http://www.followyourheart.com/vegenaise.html - broken link)
I LOVE Vegenaise.... that is all I use.

My mother always used Miracle Whip for everything and referred to it as "mayonnaise". She grew up in New Jersey but her parents were from Ohio.
My wife grew up Jewish, and she tells me that Jews never use Miracle Whip. It's mayonnaise only for her - Hellmann's/Best Foods or Kraft.
