I'm with Pilot1, as I get older, I appreciate real food even more, savoring the taste and texture that much more.

Sounds like me. LOL I definitely have appreciated good food more and more as I've tried new things and expanded my horizons. I still appreciate some old favorites from Mom, but many more new items as well. Fast food has no appeal but a good meal from a nice restauant is a rare treat. Especially if we have a sitter.

I used to eat to live, now I live to eat.
I savor every bite. The funny thing is, I'm thinner now then when I was young.
I guess now I go for quality rather than quantity.
As Warren Zevon said: Enjoy every sandwich.

Do we appreciate food less as we get older?

When I was a little girl, I got all excited about going out (rarely) to "fast food joints", but that meant A & W Root Beer stand or Dairy Queen, not McDonald's.

I don't get excited at all about going to a fast food joint now. Why? Because I appreciate food MORE than I did when I was younger. The food that I appreciate can't be obtained at fast food joints, for the most part (though there are a couple or three hamburger dives, not national chains, that still get my heart racing ).

So, the answer to the question in the thread header is, no. Just the opposite, in my experience.

I don't care for fast food and some area sit downs the service negates the food. I am finding as I get older nothing *tastes* good to me especially my own cooking. It must be OK because others request my cooking but to me I am sick of it.

I've found we enjoy good food more at home as we can control and season to our likes. I do make somethings that make me groan with happiness.

Fast food never turned me on.

I'm in the same boat - I think I appreciate food more as I've "matured". My tastes have definitely changed - I wouldn't even touch a mushroom until about 15 years ago. Now, I'll eat them. They're still not my favorite thing, but I will eat them. Eggs - hated them, except for deviled eggs, egg salad sandwiches and custard. Now, I'll even eat quiche!

I'm staying young then as I don't like eggs and if aging does it then I'm opting out.

Good luck with that, Nomad!

BTW, I still don't do fried or scrambled or omlets. Or, even worse - poached!
