I just want you all to know I was joking about the food although I have heard rumors. I was actually going to stockpile a little. Does it matter whether we buy something now or two months from now if it is canned. With the prices going up so much each month I might save some money. My husband said absolutely not. If food gets scarce, it could be a new weight control. LOL
He also does not go along with my philosophy of, "Might as well spend the money before the bank loses it." That should get the economy going.
With walnuts, pecans, persimmons, apples, etc. in our back yard, we could probably survive from the wild. I have mushrooms growing in two of my potted plants, I don't think I would try to eat them though.
I stockpile and have been for past year. This could well be a SHTF scenario. If things get really bad, ammo--for self-defense as well as hunting--is a good investment. (Assuming you already have the guns.)
I can and dehydrate foods from my garden, buy canned goods and meat on sale, salt the meat, hang it to dry and then seal in vacuum bags. I have a pretty good supply of dry goods--beans, dry milk, flour, corn meal, dried eggs, dried cheese. I have a Coleman stove, fuel, a Coleman lamp, oil lamps, soap, buckets, tubs, even a washboard. There are many websites devoted to survival--also forums--and both FEMA and Red Cross have websites advising people to be prepared for emergencies.
Note to self: Get more toilet paper next time I go to town.
Nah, not because of that, but I stockpile anyway because I use coupons and buy what's on sale (grocery game but on my own), so I have lots of stuff and we could get by for a while on what is in the pantry if we had to.
I have no plans on stock piling stuff, nor do I have the room to do it. I may buy some bottled water and have some non perishables on hand, but that's about it.
I have no plans to stockpile food. Nor do I have plans to spend my money before the banks lose it. I remember the panic on Sept 11th to go and get gas (heck I was an Assistant Manager at a gas station on that day.) People panicked that the price was going to jump and ran our entire town almost out of gas (100,000 people and dozens of gas stations.) The few that still had gas at the end of the day were the ones that weren't open 24 hours.
I'm afraid though that this town might once again panic and there won't be any food when I go to the store next week, but I'll be darned if I add to the mess. If I have to I can get by for a few weeks without shopping. Heck might even be able to get by foralmost 2 months. I'll just have to get creative with the stuff in the cupboards.

I understand. The coupon cutting, bulk buying crowd is a whole different genre from the survivalist crowd. I'm not saying anyone on here is a survivalist, but ya never know....
