I want to make these... FamilyFun: Salty Bones Recipe - and More Family Fun

I like the tip that someone had on make a skull to go with it. I don't bake bread from scratch though. How might I fake this with a can of breadsticks or something? Can I make them over a form of sorts?

Are you asking how to make a skull with breadstick dough? I'm not certain that would work.

The salty bones are made with breadstick dough according to the recipe.

For a skull I would find a plastic one at the $1 store.

To make a skull yourself I think you would have papier mache over a balloon or something--very messy for one thing and good luck on trying to fashion anything skull like from the balloon shape.

I suppose you could decorate a pumpkin like a pirate. Scarf and eye patch?

what if you found a baking tin in the shape of a skull--with halloween coming i bet it would be easier to find... and bake a cake in that shape, and put the bread salty bones around that.

The problem with buying a skull to use as mold is two-fold. First, would it be food-safe, and secondly, would it withstain the baking process. I did find these, althought they wouldn't be in scale to the bones.

What about making the breadstick bones as described and making a brain-shaped dip to go with them? this is food-safe, but is not for baking. You would need a dip that is moldable- maybe gaucamole or some kind of cheese ball that uses softened cream cheese as the binder.

If you scroll down there is a cream cheese skull that would go well with the bones>>>
