I was working on a blog post about the use of 'Cream of X' soups in recipes.

I'm looking for data here to support or disprove a theory, so honest answers are appreciated!

Do you have one or more cans "Cream of ______" soup in your pantry?

What are the odds that it will ever be opened to be consumed as soup, rather than as a recipe component?

I have two cans of cream of chicken soup. I use it only one recipe I got off the minute rice box for chicken and spicy rice. Basically, rice, chicken, brocolli, salt pepper, paprika and cream of chicken soup. This is meal cooked in and around 30 min. That is really the only thing I use it for. Would I make just the soup with it, no.

Thank you for your input. My suspicion is that the vast majority of Cream of _ soups that get sold end up in recipes.

I do like Campbells Cream of Mushroom soup, prepared as soup, but can't remember the last time I had it. Been years.

We like to eat Cream of Mushroom soup as 'soup.' I do occasionally use it in a recipe, but usually it is just 'soup.' We do eat other types of cream soups, but mainly mushroom.

I have never and would never use a cream of any soup just for a soup. I use it in recipes only........like tatertot casserole, other types of casseroles, crock pot dishes, etc. I actually buy the bulk packs of the cream of chicken and cream of mushroom at BJ's.

Hubby detests cream of mushroom. I have been banned from having it in my house. LOL

I'm not a big fan of canned soups for soup sake. I'd rather make my own if I'm going to eat it as soup. I make a wicked cream of asparagus soup! However, there are just some recipes that are greatly enhanced with the addition of cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup. Those are pretty much the only ones I buy.

I use canned soups for lot's of recipes. Saulisbury steaks, tuna casserole, beef strogaoff, Sloppy Joes(Tomato soup), Shepherd's pie, etc.

Here's a recipe you can use to keep in your pantry just in case you're out of your cream of--soup cans.

Cream Soup Mix (Replacement for Cream of ___ Soups) Substitute Recipe | Recipezaar

When we make soup we don't use that stuff. We like to get as fresh as we can. Only soup from a can we eat is tomato.........we've had that maybe twice in the last 10yrs.

I just thought cream of mushroom soup was for rice/chicken. If my wife made me it from the can as soup I'd just eat crackers.

I only use it in recipes - if I'm going to have any kind of soup, it's going to be made from fresh ingredients. Canned cream of soups are very helpful for weekday quickie meals.
