I have two, one was a gift. It has a cow on it who is sitting at a bar and she says "I said Hay, Bartender." ha!
I try to remember to wear one of them, as it's more convenient to wipe my hands on it when they're wet, because it seems like my dishtowel is never where I am when I need it! I don't usually care if my clothes get messy, I always change into old clothes when I get home from work and before cooking anyway. I do wear my apron if I have good clothes on, like when I have people over and on holidays.
Just unpacked another clothing bag today. One of the items in this one was a beautiful dark blue denim apron, another inherited from my parents, I think that makes at least four.
The catch of the matter is, though, I have yet to use any of them, to ever use any as far as I can remember.
I can recall my father with his olive drab apron and embroidered insignia (one of the ones I have), that he wore over his Army uniform in the morning, especially when he had grapefruit. That I can understand the use for.
But I'm so much all cotton (and 3rd shift), that I've never really given a thought to such things. I'm not sure where "Susie Homemaker" fits in with my, developing, "Dusty Cowgirl". After all, I have no fear of cat fur (said because one just leapt up as I type).
So are they a fashion of the past or is there a current use for them, perhaps as the spaghetti sauce explodes?

I always forget to use mine too. I wish I wouldn't; It's nice to have that safety net against messes and it's kind of fun to wear them (I have some cute ones!). My husband wears his more often than not when bread-making (flour everywhere...), and I do try to remember it when making something like jam, but it's mostly out of sight, out of mind. I'm with you: it's just not that big of a deal to get my clothes a little dirty.
I've been thinking lately that maybe I should start wearing an apron.
It has nothing to do with fashion. In my case, I was furious when sputtering oil from browning chicken spattered on a nice shirt that I was wearing.
Yeah, that's the point of my apron-wearing. Whenever cooking with oil, I'm pretty much guaranteed to ruin my clothes if I don't cover them up.
