I do most of the cooking and enjoy it, but to me the best part is all the family around that we do not see that often. Catching up on the past year on what has been going on in their lives.
And if you don't like the turkey, send the leftover home with someone else.

What's not to love? The smells of Thanksgiving warm the house and heart.

Even tho it's just 2 of us-I refuse to eat out and make the traditional meal. Christmas is crown roast of pork and New year's prime rib.

I don't suppose you can suggest to your family to make something different? Don't suggest it with a whine, but with excitement. Something along the lines of "isn't it a shame that you spend all this time on a fancy meal and it is always the same thing? Wouldn't it be interesting to try some other interesting recipes that seem a little too much for every day cooking?" Or suggest you start an ethnic theme--every year is a different cuisine. You could start with one that most of your family is familiar with. Or, you could host the meal yourself, telling everyone that you are doing a more untraditional meal.

Just some ideas. Good luck.

lacey, we're the same way. People here don't get it. "Why don't you go to the dinner the community's putting on???" because we don't want to!

NMS strange isn't it? The community meals around here are at 11AM to1PM-way too early for me. I cannot wait for Thursday (and Fri for leftovers!).

I never get leftovers, this is why I need to make a turkey on another day!

I will either do it Thanksgiving weekend or force my mom to teach me how to make a turkey dinner when she here over Christmas.

So sorry, I am NOT over the holiday meal. If anything, I'm under it?

Thanks giving dinner is my favorite to cook and eat! I love making a big turkey dinner with all the side dishes and desserts! I cook turkey about three times a year, but not for Christmas or Easter. We like prime ribs for Christmas and ham for Easter and of course turkey for Thanks giving. It's our tradition, our kids will flip out if I cooked something else.

Love holiday dinners, Thanksgiving we always do a turkey. Christmas we will do a turkey if we scored a buy one get on the turkey. If not then we do a themed Christmas. One year was mexican, another seafood, This year we are doing Italian. Lasagna is the main course, haven't worked out the rest of it yet.

Growing up we always had turkey for thanksgiving, ham for christmas and new years and Ham on Easter. Hubby of course doesn't eat red meat or pork so this tradition has faded for me. But we make the most of it.

No, I definitely love the holidays and enjoy making holiday meals. Our family is in the North, so we are having 10 friends coming to our home for Thanksgiving. I saw on the news today that our shelter is running out of food and clothes, so I am going to pick up a turkey while I am out tomorrow and drop it off and see what else they need.
Last year we were at our sons house for Christmas and he made authentic Mexican food. They are setting their own tradition with their children. Holiday meals are all about the people you are sharing it with, it may center around food, but you don't know if the food or the people will be with you next year.
Have a wonderful, safe holiday.
