I've eaten in many places that, in my opinion, were excellent. The one that sticks in my mind, however, is one of the closest to home for me. It is Buck Owens' Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, CA. The food is excellent, and reasonably priced. The Sunday Brunch has so many good things to choose from that you get filled up long before you get to try everything. I've never been disappointed with any meal I've ever had there, and quite often have had great entertainment to go along with the meal.
Another place that comes to mind that is somewhat fancy, but still fairly reasonably priced, is the Odyssey, in Granada Hills, CA. They even have a very good lunch buffet that is excellent (and very filling) while being reasonably priced. Again, this is a place where I've never been disappointed.
I just thought of another one that has long been closed, but was one of my favorite places to eat when it was still around. It was Porter's House, later called Cadillac Ranch, in Bakersfield, CA. Everything they served was excellent, from the bread and soup, to the salads, to the steaks and potatoes. It was basically a steak house, but it was the best one I've ever been to, and I've been to many of them. The staff was friendly, and the dining experience was always fantastic. I wish it was still around.
The best restaurant I've ever been to was actually at a hotel. It was the YO Ranch Holiday Inn in Kerrville, Texas, which was owned by John Wayne at one time. There's a ten foot stuffed grizzly in the entrance. I was really skinny at the time about 110lbs, but I really ate a lot that Christmas Day. There was a guy going around giving us champagne, which I drank a lot of. Then there was some kind of huge roast that you could ask the chef to give you a hunk of. I ate a piece of that, which was about an inch thick and about six to eight inches in diameter. Then I ate two plates full of shrimp and a lot of bread -maybe 20-30 pieces. Then I had more champagne. Then I proceeded to have some vegetables and then more champagne. Then I ate two pieces of cheesecake and I weighed about 10lbs. more when my Tony Lama's stumbled out the door of the YO Ranch feelin' pretty good.
The best filet mignon I've ever had was at The Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo. Yes, that hotel where all the rooms have a different theme! Never would've thought their resturant would knock my socks off, but, YOWZA~ *drool* It's a good 4 hour drive for us to get there, so we don't eat there very often. I love Ruth Chris Steak House's too!
jdavid93225.... The Crystal Palace! Two thumbs up! Great when you go there and happen to catch a guest passing thru town, like Brad Paisley, too! RIP, Buck!
I traveled a lot as a kid with my folks. Don't know if this resturant is still there, but there was a place in Atco, NJ called "The Library". GREAT place for steaks!

I've had the good fortune of seeing both Buck Owens and Brad Paisley there, as well as Ricky Skaggs. They were all great shows, especially B.P. On top of the great show was the great food, so each time it was a wonderful occasion. I am glad things are staying the way they were now that Buck has graduated to a better life. I still miss him, though.
One meal that stands out was at Antoine's in the French Quarter in New Orleans. Anyone that can make asparagus taste that good has my vote, LOL.
