Okay this reads like a feast but here is the menu.
Roast Turkey.
Pa dutch potato filling. Its basically mashed potatoes taken up a few notches with bread cubes, eggs, onions and celery.
Stuffing. I love sage filling so this shares its place next to the filling.
Cope's dried corn. Sweet corn dried and then cooked. It's a local Pa dutch tradition.
Squash. Butternut squash with butter and brown sugar. MMMM.
Peas and pearl onions. I generally only eat a little but they add a green color to the table. They could be excluded and not missed.
Green bean casserole. This takes up valuable real estate at the table and I won't touch it.
Cole slaw. Overkill but it goes good with any chicken or turkey dish. Its also needed for a side to turkey pot pie the day after.
Cranberry relish. WAY better than regular canned cranberry sauce. Its got fresh cranberries, oranges, diced apples, either strawberry or raspberry gelatin mix in( I think).
Rolls, butter and gravy. I'm not a gravy person but clear gravy with rolls, mmmm.
Dessert. Pumpkin custard pie, whipped cream and cherry pie and cheesecake with coffee. Ice cream but I'm always too stuffed to even think about it.

There are only 3 of us so our menu is light (KY).

This year I'm making:

Roasted Duck
Cherry sauce
Mushroom wild rice
Baked stuffed apple
Rolls
Red Wine
Chocolate cake

I've never made a duck before. Wish me luck!

Then we get right down to it and even the "ethnic" and non Southern family members start saying, "You mean we're not going to have the country ham?" and "You mean you're not going to make that dressing?" and "But someone has to bring green bean casserole," and the big uproar - "DON'T MESS WITH THE DESSERT MENU!"

So we always just say, "Never mind - we're going with the same ol same ol!" And everyone cheers!
We are as well, and me being the cook of the family we have to incorporate Cuban, Peruvian, Jamican, Puertorican, Chec republic or mid western Americana and Irish dishes. That is what you get when a Cuban marries a Irish man, then marries a Midwestern man and grandson is the mixed mutt of Irish, Cuban and Peruvian. The rest is the melting pot that is my family

But come Thanksgiving is almost always traditional American classics with a bit of flair.
