Buy a large tub of hummus and a few packages of pita bread.
Cut the pita bread into triangles and serve with a dollop of hummus.

This month (next week) I found I could get a GREAT deal on what should be a very nice snack - sweet enough and hearty enough to stave off some of the hunger). Baby carrots, sliced oranges, and 1/2 bagel with cream cheese for only $11 total for a class of 20.

I really want to make sure they're filled up on my day b/c they have to eat lunch at 10:15! So by snack time (around 2) they're starving. Any ideas (preferably cheap) and something that doesn't involve baking (which I hate) would be great.
Here is the tip......! you can make some milk toffees. 1 liter condensed milk, 1 liter sugar, a little bit of water , chopped cashew 200 gs. Put sugar and water in to a non stick pan keep it on fire and then add milk till it makes a thick sticky mixture. Then add some butter and the cashew .Stir it from the begining till end. When its cooked enough put it on a buttered tray and mark small pieces. after 1 or 2 hours you can seperate the little slabs . put it to a dry bottle , keep a fresh cloth on it ..............close the lid. That is it...................Tasty................My kids love it. I make milk toffees every week end..................Try and let me know.

I can't believe that your child's school will let you bring snacks that are not pre-packaged. they have made the rules much more strict around here! Plus, most schools discourage sweet treats at all
(our school just banned that stuff this past year) also, with so many nut allergies, many are banning the whole peanut butter thing. I would suggest fruit or veggies, some crackers. even popcorn, divided into smaller baggies. indivual cups of applesauce, pudding etc. would also be good.
If your school lets you bake, you could do a fruit pizza. pillsbury has a nice recipe using sugar cookie dough, a cream cheese spread and sliced fruit on top. you can do a large one and slice or individuals using the slice and bake cookies!

Sounds odd but my kids love it...

French bread stick (baguette) cut into slices (circles) spread with cream cheese and raisins stuck on to look like faces.

Cream cheese can be plain, or even fruit-flavored.

You can get fancy and use little slices of celery or half grapes to decorate as well.
