Yep. Higher operating cost, mostly caused by government is passed on to the consumer.

Well thank goodness for $10 costco, $5 frozen pizza and $5 little Caesar's! (we're not connoisseurs, just like it now and again).

in Italy, we don't have a large pizza as your.

here, pizza has a unique measure.
The price is from 4,00 € to 12,00 €
There are some exceptions with slices of pizza but it isn't diffuse.

Friend handles the books for a local pizza joint, an indy place. He says under three bucks total (cost to the business) for a large w/pepperoni in the box and out the door. Retail price for same is around $6.99 +tax. Last year the place netted around $250k. Now that includes other foods and beverages but that is still a nice chunk which pizza plays a large part of.

Thanks minniemouse!

This is interesting....

Chefs protest against pizza prices | Italy Magazine

''In some cities in north and central Italy, and unfortunately also in Campania, I've seen Margherita pizzas being sold for 10 euros,'' Borrelli said.

''Considering the low cost of the raw materials, that's real financial speculation''.

Farmers' association Coldiretti meanwhile set the true cost of the flour, yeast, salt, water, tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, extra-virgin olive oil and basil required for an average 200-gramme Margherita pizza at 2 euros.

Coldiretti said costs were further reduced if producers used inferior quality ingredients, such as Chinese tomato concentrate, Tunisian extra-virgin olive oil or mozzarella from cows rather than buffalos."

BTW, @ today's rates, 1 Euro = 1.3496 U.S. dollars
