I got over most of my other aversions--yams and avocados are fine. I'll try pretty much anything except organ meats.

Once my mom had my sister and I sit in a Luby's forever until we ate our zucchini. Thought it was horrible.

LOVE it now!

Mom is a blessed memory, but I grew up and one day let her know what a witch she was that night.

Never tried Luby's zucchini since then.

The things I wouldn't eat as a kid were: beef stew (said it was too "stewie"), meat loaf, swordfish, and of all things--pizza (got sick right after I ate it once).

Now, I eat them all except I haven't retried the swordfish. But I like most all other fishes.

May sound crazy, but I don't remember eating when I was growing up? Must have eaten surely as I survived it, but can't remember much at all about food when I was young. I didn't actually eat much as a kid, don't think I broke 100 lbs. till I was in my twenties. I remember hating milk and mayonnaise.

I do remember a roast my mother used to make on Sundays. It was round and all tied up with string and baked in the oven. Delicious. I can't remember seeing a string tied roast since the 60's. Don't think they still exist anymore?

I have to agree with you there ! This sounds like culinary blasphemy for the banana, cabbage and the mayonnaise, of all which I am quite fond of in different dishes...

I used to loathe Wild Mushrooms ( fortunately I discovered how wrong I was really quickly and now adore them)and this horrible concoction they used to occasionally serve us at school of cooked spinach and boiled eggs in a sort of white creamy sauce. It was really quite horrid especially as the rest of our school food was lovely.
