On MSNBC and other news sources a study has been refered to by the University of Texas that followed people who drink both Diet Sodas and Regular Sodas.

The people who regularly drink two or more diet sodas got obese 54% of the time.
The people who drink regular sodas got obese 33% of the time.

They also say that when the body ingests a sweet substance that it can't derive calories from, it messes up your ability to regulate the intake and your body seeks the calories elsewhere.

Have you ever noticed that Diet Coke drinkers in particular often will drink a 2 litre boss a day? I've seen it over and over.
And this study didn't even talk about the dangers of Aspertame.
...drink for thought....

...not to mention the sodium in those drinks...makes you thirstier...

check this link: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...031100918.html

Story is that something in plastics, bisphenol A, makes fat cells go into high gear...causes lab rats to become obese and they 'think' the same mechanism is at work in humans....could shed some light on what you mentioned....maybe its the plastic drink containers triggering fat cells to bulk up...very interesting article...they found that 95% of people tested for this chemical HAD it in their system....at elevations HIGHER than what it takes to affect a lab rat's fat cells..

I have never been a soda drinker, even as a kid. When I was in the restaurant business, most of the people that ordered diet soda and used artificial sweeteners were overweight. There's no nutritional value to soda and the companies that make them torture animals to test them.

I think it's the chicken before the egg. People who are already overweight drink diet sodas thinking that it will help.

Thin people drink non-diet knowing it won't make much of a difference.

Lifestyle choices and overall long-term dietary habits are what makes a person fat or thin.

Well said Ellie.
When I do drink Coke, I drink the real thing--can't stand diet.
I simply don't drink it every day.

I think it's the double cheesburgers with fires that people eat then order the diet soda
I love caffene free diet pepsi (lol I know why bother)
I drink a lot of it.
I guess after all of these years when I do take a sip of a regular soda it seems to "thick and surypy" to me.

I did notice when my husband stopped drinking regular soda, he now drinks water or unsweet iced tea, he lost weight

Tonight I splurged on junk food after eating healthy food all week. Took myself out to dinner at the Krystal, and was oh so happy. Ah, guilty pleasures.
