Mmm, grilled cheese and bacon on sliced portuguese bread. (I'm allergic to the soy in all factory-made breads) I prefer a milder cheese, like mozzarella, provolone, or swiss. Gruyere is awesome, but rather expensive. I was never big on American cheese.
Sometimes I use ham instead, and add some honey and spicy mustard along with the cheese.
Ham, swiss, and either honey mustard or spicy mustard is really good grilled on cinnamon raisin bread!
I need to have them accompanied by some dill pickle, chips or spears. Don't know why, I just love it that way. When getting a grilled cheese at work I used to get a couple of dill chips from the salad bar. Sometimes the cashier would want to weigh and charge me for them I had a GCS with Bac-O's bacon bits last night
Ah leave it to Lacey to introduce bread choices LOL. My favorite grilled cheese is american with tomato (it's good!) on white. On rye, I prefer a small amount of mild swiss - with or without bacon &/or tomato.
