No kidding, once a month she calls me and she's too sick to get off the toilet and her husband is stuck on their other toilet. They eat a lot of greasy food and have alcohol with it, so maybe that contributes somehow.

Of course their illnesses could be caused by the one or two times a week she cooks

Yes, chicken in a nice restaurant in Atlanta, GA. Many times during my two years in Uganda, almost always from stupidly eating salad/coleslaw/raw veggies/fruit (washed in dirty water) and once from eating a soft boiled egg.

I can remember one time after eating a hamburger at a favorite diner. Was sick for about 24 hours. However, I continued eating there as I have for years with no problems.

Food poisoning takes from a few hours to a few days to start having symptoms so 20 minutes after consuming something isn't enough time for that particular meal to give you food poisoning.

Anyway, I got food poisoning from a restaurant once from the cole slaw and I was on my way to Wilmington, NC which from that point was a 15 hour drive. I puked most of the way to North Carolina and it took me a lot longer than 15 hours to get there.

Greasy food or alcohol will not cause, or make, food poisoning worse. If she's getting sick that often, it is most likely her own kitchen or some other issue. If food poisoning was that common in her area, the health department would be all over every restaurant in the area.

I've had food poisoning once and it was my own fault - I made red beans and rice with some hamburger in it...and though it tasted fine, it caused both hubby and I to get extremely sick.

It took over 10 years for me to make that again!

About 3 or 4 times. The last time was absolutely terrible.

I've had food poisoning twice. Ugghhh!

The second time is now. I'm still recovering. Two days ago I had fried fish and kale for dinner. About an hour or two afterward my stomach started rumbling. Then I started feeling really bloated. So I took some Gas-X pills. My stomach felt a little better for a while. But then it started up again, accompanied by nausea. I went to bed early. I woke up several times in the middle of the night and vomited and had the worst diarrhea. Yesterday I couldn't eat anything. All I could keep down was ginger tea, hot lemonade, and cool water. Today I've been alternating between hot lemonade, and broth with dry crackers. I'm still feeling weak and slightly nauseous. The idea of food grosses me out.

I have no idea what could have made me so sick. No one else got sick from the dinner.

It seems like there is a bug going around because a couple with whom I had lunch last week also had food poisoning. He had food poisoning a couple of days before we got together, and the wife got it the night after we got together. It doesn't seem to be related to a specific food, since there's been several days between each occurrence. The wife had it so bad that she went to the ER, and said that there were a lot of people there with food poisoning also. The source of this has me really confused.

I had it once, and it was from a bad clam on cape cod. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy as it lasted about 24 hours and
most of it on the toilet!

I've had it twice. Once from Safeway chicken and once from Super Potato Oles from Taco Johns. It's pretty nasty. Mine lasted a couple of days. I couldn't eat anything and went on a liquid diet. I had really bad stomach pains and felt like I needed to throw up, but instead it came out the other end. On both occasions I slept in the bathroom so I could be next to the toilet so I wouldn't have to walk back and forth from my bed to the bathroom. Interestingly enough I still get chicken from the grocery store and Super Potato Oles from TJs. I guess I'm a glutton for potential punishment.
