We leave a minimal tip ($3 or so), but I don't like tipping @ a buffet. I'M getting my own food. All I'm getting from the server is a drink. They'd save money by just putting out a drink machine and letting me do it myself.
Actually they do a lot more work probably because they have to clear a lot more plates off your table and probably visit more often. I figure they choose to work there though. I have been told $1/person at a buffet is what you're supposed to leave, so that's what I do.
We leave $1 a person at buffets. It used to be that nobody tipped at Luby's, but ours switched to the assigned table/waitress type service. They introduce themselves, bring you a straw, ask if you need anything else, and refill your drinks. It seems now the practice is to tip at Luby's, so we do the $1 a person there also. I don't like tipping for takeout.
I leave a small tip. 2-4 dollars for two people, depending on the level of service (drinks refilled? tea served? used plates cleared? ). If nothing else I figure that the busboys split the tips.
I don't think that's necessary. No one's said they don't tip, and simply b/c I don't like to tip someone when I'm getting my own food doesn't mean I need give it up and go eat fast food.
Yes, they pick up my plates, but it's not like I'm using 5 - 6 plates every few minutes and keeping them running.
