We don't eat any peppers at our house. However I do like to cook with a little yellow, red and orange peppers and once in a while I'll sneak in a tiny bit of green pepper. DH really cannot handle spicy food. I can't even image a pepper so hot it would do this. Imagine what his mouth felt like.

Do you like hot food? Do you use a lot of peppers in your cooking?

I don't like spicy for heat's sake. I like the flavor of certain peppers like chipotle or pasilla peppers etc. But I don't enjoy it if it's burning the crap out of my mouth.

I have grown ghost peppers and eat them regularly. I buy Habaneros on a regular basis. I also have a fridge full of hot sauces, both homemade and store bought. I am what you call a "chili-head". I cannot get enough hot stuff and every meal includes a spicy hot component. When I grew some of the superhots I ate some fresh, pickled some and dried some which I still have and use to make even more hot sauce. My wife is the complete opposite and even has a problem with too much black pepper. It does become an addiction. As you might imagine, I have built up quite a tolerance.

Take a look at this. This woman eats them like they were candy and even rubs them in her eyes.

Our garden did not get started until July this year but the Habanero and Ghost harvest has been plentiful. I cook with both. Occasionally I mess with their watering to drive the heat up.

Eating a hamburger with Ghost puree sounds like a qualifier for Darwin Awards.

Gguerra - OT - would you share some hot sauce recipes?

I'm not a fan of green bell peppers, but give me a spicy pepper and I'm in heaven. I made pickles this year with local jalapeños that were super spicy, it's my go to snack. When I roast a chicken with potatoes, carrots and such I always roast some hot peppers with it for some extra spice.

What type of recipes are you looking for? Type of peppers? Dried or Fresh?

I won't touch anything hotter than a jalapeno.

I have habaneros and Ghosts (fresh and dried). Hot sauce is something I have not yet gotten into. Something not too complex please:>) Let me know if you want dried Ghosts - plenty to share.

I snack on jalapeños and serranos as well! They're a better alternative to potato chips.

My fiancé inhaled the fumes of cooking peppers; a melange of jalapeños and some other hot pepper, and it seared his lungs for days. He actually came down with the flu afterwards, and I think it started from having over-irratated throat and lungs. You have to be careful cooking them.

Spicy peppers have a certain flavor that without it, you can tell something is missing from the dish. I'll usually deseed any fresh hot pepper though.

I like to use a pinch of red chili flakes in my eggplant caponata; the last time I made it I forgot, and it was just not the same.

I think Sriracha sauce is an all-around good spicy sauce. Who doesn't like Sriracha.
