Sounds good, burdell. Sometimes those make-it-up dinners are the best!
this time my wife's aunt. #92. Her brother my FIL just turned 94. Old fashioned southern fried cooking....Chicken and pork chops, cube steaks and sausage. Lot of eggs and fresh veggies out of the garden for dinners there. And contrary to popular belief neither ever had to work hard with lots of physical labor. Just good genes I guess. I'm on my way to freezer for ice cream sandwich for dinner's dessert.
Goodness, everyone's meals sound so good, and I am soooooo far behind in this thread. Between the paying job getting busier as we approach fiscal year end and the volunteer job entering its fulltime phase as well, I don't have time for much more than a quick note once in a while.
Shrimp and andouille gumbo was wonderful, no surprises there, and he did pretty good at limiting the quantity. There's enough for another meal for the two of us, but ONLY one more meal, not five or six as I was worried about. And if perchance there's any still left on Friday when the college boy arrives for a visit, it won't last his first night in the house.
We had to go back and test another Brownie of Doom after the gumbo, of course. It's that whole quality-control thing, you can't just test a single sample out of the batch and hope to get valid results. We take these things very seriously indeed, so we are testing extensively. So far, so good!
Dishes await, then shower and bed - goodnight, all.
I will have to catch up on everyone's posts today over coffee tomorrow. Wicked day here and finally, just after 9, I cooked some mac and cheese from a box and boiled some hot dogs to eat on buns. Filling, but not at all exciting. Which is what I needed tonight.

Hope and trust everyone is okay. See ya tamale!
I hope that yesterdays wicked day has allowed you some peaceful sleep! You must have been exhausted to eat mac and cheese out of a box! I'll give you a ring while on my little travel excursion later on this morning.
Last nights dinner was American Chop Suey. Not real good as I've packed up most of my spices, etc.
Tonights dinner as we sit and watch the sunset over the gulf will be prepared by either my sister or my Mom. Nom nom nom!
It took us awhile but finally we came to the conclusion that there is a reason for AYCE buffets.....its called quality ......the only place I found it to be otherwise was at a very expensive seafood buffet back in RI wjith unlimited lobsters and collossal shrimp (not rock shrimp) and lobster newberg etc. But it wasnt cheap and how much can one person eat.
I hated the buffets at the casinos in California and the Home Town Buffet....and the Asian buffets out there....at first I was impressed but after a few visits....I was less so. How many funky looking mussels or non meaty crab legs can one person eat?
In Japan they have AYCE buffets (especially for breakfast) but call them "Viking" and they often are very good.....there was one supper viking where they had a sushi chief...and when they brought in a new Tuna....it was a major event with ceremony to honor the fish and applause by the delighted guests.....the sushi was out of this world.
Elston, I'm not a fan of AYCE's either. IMO, everything tastes the same. Something about the mass production of food and the fact that I have not much faith when it comes to other people in the buffet line. Especially the ones buffets at any casinos. Call me a germaphobe, it's not my thing.
First off I want to say all my thoughts and prayers are with our Lacey and these tests she is having today at the hospital.. I sure hope she feels better real soon.
Still have no idea for dinner. I will post that later.

I, too, hope that Lacey's tests go quickly and without discomfort, and that the outcome is all good. I'll be thinking of her this morning.
It'll likely be late before I get back to post again tonight, as our regular weekly dinner guests will join us for tamale pie and pinto bean soup this evening. Looking forward to catching up with them; they were both in crunch mode for school last week, so we didn't get much chance to chat. And as an added benefit, having guests due to arrive at 6:30 means that I *have* to leave the office by 6:00 tonight.
Have a wonderful day, all.
