If your house was on fire, what three things would you save from your kitchen? I'd take my utility knife with a 5-inch blade and riveted handle, my 9-inch stainless steel turner with the riveted wooden handle. Third thing, I'm not sure. Cast iron frying pan would probably survive the fire, and maybe be even better.

I would give myself a hernia if I was dashing out of my burning house with my KitchenAid Stand Mixer in tow!

I didn't realize what a great knife that is, that I'd save, but I just looked it up. It's stamped "Olsen's, H.C.MI" (Harbor City, MI) on the handle, boning knife. Apparently, their fixed-blade knives were made by Anton Winger of Solingen. The blade is unmarked. Olsen's factory burned down in 1978. My mother had it before that, and probably got it at a yard sale. A few swipes with an Arkansas stone, and I can shave with it. In the kitchen, I hardly ever touch any other knife, although I use a heavier butcher knife and a claw hammer to go through frozen meat.

I would grab my recipe box and my 2 passed down iron skillets. They may survive the fire but I am not taking a chance on them getting to hot and warping.

Honestly, maybe just the pictures on the fridge, the blackbird I put in the middle of my pie (it was my moms) & the picture of the Last Supper over the table (that was my Babas-grandmothers).

LOL! I don't think I would take anything if there really was a fire but if I had a bit of time I would choose my Electrolux magic mill mixer.

I'd take the photos of my mother and dad (both dead now) off the wall, and my mom's old cookbook that's full of her handwritten notes and commentary on the recipes. I could buy new pots and pans and utensils, but I could never replace those treasures.
