That's a good point about salting your fruit with cheese, Buckhead.

I don't put salt on any fruits served as fruits (I tried the watermelon thing but I prefer it without) but I do love pairings such as bleu cheese or sharp cheddar with apples and pears.

I never thought of it..I will try some on the next melon I have.

Only use salt basically on tomatoes, potatoes, & steak.

I love cheese with fruit. When I want a simple meal I will either get some good bread not mass produced stuff or good crackers, cheese especially Stilton and some apples or pears and maybe some nuts.

I can remember when fruit was seasonal and I couldn't wait for summer when there would be all kinds of fruit in the store. Now you can get it year round.

I love a salty sweet taste. I think that is why cheese and fruit are just perfect together.

I've been gone and just saw this thread - I remember when I was a kid, me and my Dad used to put salt on watermelon and orange slices.

I haven't done that in a long time - I may just have to try that again soon!

I salt my watermelon.
I like either salt or mayo w/ my tomato slices.
I like ranch sometimes w/ my apples.

I never thought of ranch with apples. I have eaten peanut butter on apples. Might try it.

I don't get people putting mayonnaise on corn on the cob. Just seems odd.

During the summer, we do it. Got the recipe from Paula Deen of course. spread the corn w/ mayo. roll it in Parmesan & sprinkle w/ chili powder, salt & pepper. put in foil and close. grill or broil about 10 min.

devour.

Yep, I learned it from Mexican street vendors in Chicago. They also do it with mango and papaya. and sell it on sticks.

I also learned how to make elote from the vendors, the mayo-and-cheese-and chili powder-slathered roast corn, which others have discussed upthread.
