We never drank milk with meals. In fact, I don't remember drinking anything particular with meals. I only drink milk from a glass now if I'm eating chocolate cake, brownies, or cookies. Otherwise it's just a dressing for cereal and coffee. And only non-fat, I haven't had anything else in over 20 years and my kids didn't even know what whole milk was until they bough some at school and couldn't drink it because it was so rich.
as I'm lactose intolerant, Milk w/ nothing (though I secretly love Cheese and Ice cream)
I'm the same way. Not so much with ice cream but with cheese. Yes I know I will suffer for eating it but sometimes a little suffering for something so good is worth it.
When I was little I would drink milk with dinner. When we moved to Alaska all we could get was powdered milk. The stuff was awful. Never had the desire to drink milk since.
I grew up in Wisconsin, where milk virtually ran free. Well into adulthood, it I was thirsty, I'd open the fridge and take a swig of milk, and my family of three drank a gallon a day.
Now, a gallon lasts about 3 weeks, I only put it on cereal.
I grew up in California and drank milk throughout the day, including with dinner. I'd drink a big glass or two after school. I got my growth spurt in junior high and would put away half a gallon to a gallon every day. I'm sure my mom didn't like going to the store every few days, but I think my bones are nice and strong. Now I only drink milk on my cereal or with something chocolatey, like cake. It has to be cold-cold-cold and no fatter than 1%. The creamier stuff tastes warmer.
Grew up having milk with meals. Back in the day we got our milk delivered from the dairy in glass bottles. YUM.
Raised my kids that way too. But things change.
