short ribs... need suggestions (red wine, cider, grill, bbq)

I usually throw them on the grill. And they come out good.
But I know that across the country there are myriad recipes for short ribs. Can you share any?
A coworker said he trims off as much fat as he can, then steams them in apple cider for one hour (which should be quite interesting), then he adds a BBQ spice/rub mix and then he finally grills them... and he said the meat literally just comes off the bone, it's that tender, it's that good.
Depends on if they are pork ribs or beef ribs . If they are pork ribs grandma usually boiled them for a few mins and then she would put them on the grill and wallah they would be so good .
I made short ribs a few weeks ago and used this recipie, they came out really good! I also threw in a can of Dr Pepper.
3/4 cup soy sauce
3/4 cup water
3 tablespoons white vinegar
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 tablespoon black pepper 2 tablespoons sesame oil
1/4 cup minced garlic
1/2 large onion, minced
3 pounds short ribs
Directions:
1. Pour soy sauce, water, and vinegar into a large, non-metallic bowl. Whisk in brown sugar, white sugar, pepper, sesame oil, garlic, and onion until the sugars have dissolved. Submerge the ribs in this marinade, and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate 7 to 12 hours; the longer, the better.
2. Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat.
3. Remove ribs from the marinade, shake off excess, and discard the marinade. Cook on preheated grill until the meat is no longer pink, 5 to 7 minutes per side.
This is a great recipe.....boil them and then throw in a roasting pan wit a jar of Sweet & Sour Sauce....Let them brown in the oven...then turn up the heat high right atthe end to carmelize the sauce. YUM

WHOA! How are the short ribs cut? Some short ribs are like 2" cubed. Other short ribs are cut about the size of a steak across the bones. They require very different preparations, in my opinion.
If they are in the cube form, You are better off stewing them. What I do is to dredge them in flour, brown them in fat. Deglaze the pan with a rich red wine, add garlic, celery, carrots, and onions diced into the pan and soften them. Add a can of tomato paste. Add some beef stock and cook for three hours. You will want to season with salt, pepper, bay leaves, and thyme. And cook for 3 hours at about 300F.
In the other form, I would marinate the ribs for several hours. The marinate that I use is loaded with garlic, olive oil, lime juice and orange juice with salt, pepper and maybe a tad bit of ancho chili powder.
Then, you drain the ribs and either grill them at a low temperature or roast them for about 30 minutes making sure not to overcook them.
And phonelady61's grandma is absolutely correct, boil the ribs before-hand, then marinate over-night, now thats good eats! There is no way to go wrong! Well unless you bought the kalbi marinate sauce, of course.
