A big fat nothin'. The drought is so bad that what little is growing is being hugely marked up and is of poor quality and stunted size.

Thursday - 2 cantaloups, two heirloom tomatoes, a basket of peaches, two fried pies (peach and apples), a loaf of sourdough bread, a mess of okra, and a lemonade

Saturday - 1 watermellon, two heirloom tomatoes, a jar of squash pickles, a bouquet of zinnias, a dozen parker house rolls, a bag of purple hull peas, and a cone of ice cream.

I don't buy at the local farmer's market as a general rule as the cost is very often 2-3x more than I can get the same produce at my local independent markets.

On Friday, I bought a huge Indiana melon (sweet as sugar!!) and a basket of fresh picked tomatoes (allegedly from Ky). Also got some pretty decent sweet corn - it is very tasty and the kernels are nice and "deep" when you bite into it. Yummmmm......

There aren't any farmers markets near my home. There are, however, quite a few farm stands. They put out any excess produce from the farm or truck garden that they can muster. With many of them, you pay on the honour system, put the money in a coffee can. A few have a sign on the stand which reads, "fresh eggs, come to the front door"

We got Jersey tomatoes, corn, cucumbers, basil, parsley, and white peaches. I'm thinking of salads to make, and I think we'll have to make pesto, because the batch of basil we got for $2 is humongous--it fit into a big grocery bag!
