Hey NicoleJ,

There is a WHOLE lot goin' on here

First, Fast Food portions used to be much smaller than the portions are these days.

There were less menu options.

The food/meal was considered a treat and not a "need".

Animal fats from the USA were replaced by Palm Oil from South America in the 1970s because they were cheaper and American farmers were getting subsidies from the Gov. and were getting contracts from public schools, jails etc. so they did not mind giving up the business.

-----------------------

These days it is a need, a full meal for the whole family and joins forces with other marketing conglamorates (Disney etc).

I do not think anyone goes to a FF FOR "health food" but there are people looking for fast and healthy choices.

Anyway, I recommend the book "Food Politics" by Marion Nestle; very interesting.

This is a HUGE topic girl!

Hi, nope...they stopped cooking the fries in animal oils but beef fat is still in the FRY itself: from their website

French Fries:
Potatoes, vegetable oil (canola oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, natural beef flavor [wheat and milk derivatives]*, citric acid [preservative]), dextrose, sodium acid
pyrophosphate (maintain color), salt. Prepared in vegetable oil ((may contain one of the following: Canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil with
TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness), dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent).
CONTAINS: WHEAT AND MILK *(Natural beef flavor contains hydrolyzed wheat and hydrolyzed milk as starting ingredients).

Looks to me that they use whatever cooking oil is the cheapest, and that whatever flavor everyone is complaining about varies depending on the oil of the day.

They stopped using animal fats (tallow) almost a decade ago after vegetable oil became cheaper. The health nuts have little to do with it. I only wish we did. How can you read that ingredient list and think they're feeding you real food?

Not a McD's fan, but Taco Bell has become tasteless and bland over the years. I think they're just using poor ingredients and getting away with using the cheapest crap that they can. Maybe the older I get, the pickier my taste buds become?

I agree that the Big Mac in a flour wrap sounds terrible.

That is also what happened to Domino's. Their pizzas used to be good but now they use all cheap ingredients and their pizzas are so bland!!!!!!!!!!

Domino's was good? When?

I've noticed McDonald's quarter pounders taste dry and bland lately as well. Whether that has to do with "health nuts" (LOL), cheaper ingredients, or other changes, I dunno. But it's enough to keep me from eating them very often.

C'mon, be fair. When you get a Domino's pizza, you get your money's worth. After you finish the pizza, you can eat the box as they pretty much taste the same.
