Get the book, My Life in France, by Alex Prudhomme (Julia's nephew). Julia dictated it to her nephew shortly before she died. It is a memoire of the time in Julia's life depicted in the movie. I've had the Mastering the Art of French Cooking on my shelf for years, but after reading the memoire, I couldn't wait to really read the cookbook.
OMG - I LOVED IT! This was a wonderful movie and Meryl Streep was OUTSTANDING! If this performance doesn't get her an Oscar I will demand a recount! If you go, make sure you stay for the written comments at the end of the movie. The last one was a hoot.
Lacey - I got your note . Yes, the movie does allude to this and it is hilarious! I won't say what it is on here so as not to spoil the movie! They are adorable also!
I just saw it yesterday and loved it. I went with my niece who was not really all that interested in seeing it but loved it too. It was wonderful to have Julia come to life again. She has long been a hero of mine and I've read the books about/by her. I have THE cookbook of course but it's currently in storage - long story). Her Salade Nicoise recipe is one I've made many times (the potato salad absolutely makes the recipe)and I also make mayonnaise from her book. If you're a foodie, you'll love this movie!
I don't know when I can see it...I'm dying here! And now, I really want to read that book gentlearts recommended...Might have to look for that today.....
We just got back from seeing it and we loved it! It was a lot funnier than we expected. It's torture, though, watching them eat all this great food! Everyone's smacking away and drinking wine and gimlets and on and on. Where's the hungry smiley?
