My 3 year old granddaughter is coming over this afternoon and is then spending the night (Mommy and Daddy are having a much needed "date night"). Big Papi and Granny are thrilled, and have lots of games and fun activities planned. I would like to make something especially kid-friendly for dinner, and was thinking about chicken fingers and macaroni & cheese. That got me wondering...what are other meals that kids really love? Any suggestions?

Home-made tacos. With real tortillas - not those pre-formed ones!
Hot dogs that look like squids.
Spasghetti, as I use to call it.
Grilled cheese sandwiches.
Build your own mini-pizza on english muffins.
Cut out a circle in bread and fry an egg in the middle.
Chili with lots and lots and lots and lots of fritos

I think you've got it nailed with chicken fingers and mac/cheese, my kids would surely agree. Build your own pizza is a pretty good suggestion though. Make some kinda cool pudding for dessert. What kind of hot dog looks like a squid???

I usually only make 2 knife cuts in mine, since that's the way Mom made them for me.

But this will give you the basic idea.
When you cook them, the legs curl up
Some people even give them eyes and a nose with really thick mustard.

The hot dog idea is great! I had long forgotten about these, but my Mom used to make them for us. I'll have to check the freezer as I don't know whether I have any hotdogs or not. Definitely next time, though.

Thanks for the reminder!

I figure now that I'm the grandma I can spoil her with fun stuff that may not be the healthiest food, since I don't have her on a regular basis. Of course, if I can find fun stuff that is also healthy that's even better. I made the chicken fingers, but I baked them instead of frying. She liked them, but wouldn't touch the mac and cheese. What are you gonna do - typical 3 year old. Usually she loves that. I also made sweet corn bread - she wouldn't even try that. And forget about the green veggie (of course, the fact that her granddad also won't touch green veggies doesn't help matters).

Oh well, it's one night. I'll let Mom and Dad worry about making sure she eats healthy!

Lots of kids like to dip raw vegetables in ranch dressing. Or you can steam and then cool them to soften them up a bit before dipping. Might work with your Big Kid too :-)

She does like to dip - it worked with the chicken fingers so it might work with the veggies, too. It's worth a try! Thanks (and I'll try it with the Big Kid as well!)
