Gala. Something I don't like about honeycrisp, but I can't put my finger on it.

Are honeycrisps always very large in size?

Like any apple they come in 'grades' for produce. Occasionally, you can get the smaller grade ones for a reasonable price (say 4.99 / for three pound bag) at Aldi's.

I love apples as my favorite fruit snack.
My top three - it depends on my palatte at the time, especially depending on what I just ate before.

Fuji after some sharp white cheddar cheese on water crackers
Gala after some homemade stovetop popcorn
Honeycrisp after nachos or gouda cheese with a flavored cracker like Triscuit

Some others:
Stayman Winesap
Braeburn
Jonathan

For overall versatility I like Gala, mainly because I like to snack on apples when I have a decent drive or when I do long road trips, and they don't make a mess (since not as juicy) and I can play Johnny Appleseed along the way (tossing them out the window in appropriate places - on off ramps, rural roads).

Why is the saying "An apple a day, keeps doctors away"? is apple really that good for health, or just because it's the most common fruit?

Fuji apples, kept cool in the refrigerator, are the best - especially on a hot day!

Honeycrisp.

I don't know that I really like any other apple.

Granny Smith all the way.

It's sour, juicy and hard.

I think it depends on your taste buds to what you will find delicious.

I use Granny Smith for baking. They are a bit too tart for my tastes for eating. They hold up well for baking and keep their flavor.

I agree with the others that say: honeycrisp, fuji and gala apples. They are my favorite.
