I just bought some mutsu apples. They are HUGE (grapefruit size), so you only need to peel 2 or 3 for a pie. They are a lovely green with a blush of pink on the outside, and did very well in the pie..not too juicy, not too dry. They are on the tart side.
I've kept them in a basket in my kitchen for a few weeks now and they are not spoiling.

I love the Red Delicious better, but I can eat any kind of apple.
But I will only eat an apple without the skin (I always cut the skin off first before I eat it. The skin always gets stuck between my teeth and it's hard to get out sometimes...OUCH!!). So, I prefer my apples skinless.
Honeycrisp are far and away my favorite apple in September and October. For some reason they don't store as well as other apples, so the last batch I bought was a little mushy and mealy. I won't be buying anymore until next year.
I'll probably start buying a lot of Fujis now. I would love granny smith best, but seems they put so much wax on the peel I can't even eat it.
Red Delicious has the worst skin. The skin has a awful taste, its tough, and it has the most potential to get between your teeth. Plus, I rarely see a fresh Red Delicious, a lot of marks on those apples.
Stayman and Winesap, although you don't see them as much anymore. Slightly sweet and tangy, with firm flesh. They keep well. Friends and I will buy a couple of bushels to share, or I'll get a half bushel from local apple houses in VA or western MD in the fall. These apples are great baked and make wonderful sauce and pies. Nothing smells better in the house than baking apples
Edit: I voted "other" Should have voted Winesap as Stayman is a type of Winesap
I like granny smith because you can do so much more with them, than you could with most others.
Carmel apples, apple dumplings, dutch apple pies, to name a few.
