The last few times I have been to Olive Garden the wait staff
brought an open wine bottle & glasses and set both down in front of us
as he/she greeted us . Then they asked if we would like a glass.
If you were a recovering alcoholic wouldn't that be
hard to have it waved under your nose that way ???
To an active alcoholic, it would be an invitation to drink.
To a recovering alcoholic like myself, I would smile, and very gently say - even before the bottle hit the table - "Oh, we didn't order wine, there must be a mistake. No need to put it on the table."
I am more than able to turn down a drink when offered, and most of us who have dealt with the issue successfully don't need to be "protected."
The problem, as they say, is that "One drink is too many and a hundred isn't enough."
I have had them come to the table with a bottle in hand and ask if we would like to try what ever the wine was that night but never do they leave it on the table. Have you looked around Olive Garden, there are wine bottles on every nook and cranny.
According to trade publications Olive Garden is #1 in restaurant wine sales racking up over 2 billion in yearly revenue. Agree with other poster that a lot of the dishes taste like they were frozen and microwaved.
I'm sure they wouldn't dare do it here in Branson. Besides, Olive Garden is SOOOOO overrated. I can name four or five independent Italian restaurants that put it in the dirt. Please support locally owned and operated restaurants.
