I cut mine simply for ease of eating. Most of the time I suppose it's rectangular in nature. I've tried the corner to corner cut at times but then that flap opens up on the far corner ends and kinda feels silly then. I'd have to hold it like I would if it were corn on the cob then. Ok, I've just convinced myself to vote, rectangles.
I don't like biting into a lot of crust so I always cut my sandwich top to bottom then turn each rectangles top slice 180 degrees so I have crust going around all sides. My husband scored big points with me when we were dating and he made my sandwich for me my way!
Also, mustard has to go on top of the cheese and mayo has to go on the lettuce.
I was raised with rectangles, but discovered later in adulthood that I like the triangles more. I like the way it looks but you also have less of a chance of getting the mayo, mustard etc. on your mouth when you begin eating the triangle at the corner. I always put any mayo, mustard, ketsup etc. I use on the bread. If I am going to warm up or grill the sandwich I wait until it is done to add that stuff.
Triangles, a corner to hold on to and still be able to take a big bite. Rectangles always give that awkward floppy U shape if you attempt to get a big bite. And I do like to take a bite first of all the center goodness and then eat the crust/ends.
Everybody knows that triangles are much more delicious than rectangles. Duh.
A funny thing happened to us at Arby's once. DH and I wanted to split a Pecan Chicken Salad sandwich (they're big), so we ordered one through the drive thru. But they had not cut the sandwich in half, so hubby went in to ask them to cut it. The kid behind the counter said he wasn't allowed to cut it in half "because of peanut allergies, and they would have to wash the knife."
After an email to corporate about the incident, we were told that they were supposed to place a plastic knife in the bag. I guess it would make too much sense to just cut it in half with a plastic knife inside and then throw it away? I guess they don't know a pecan is not in the peanut family, and Arby's doesn't wash knives? It makes me wonder why Arby's would even serve a death trap like a pecan chicken salad sandwich. Sometimes you just have to shake your head and move on.
The knife would actually have to be sterilized and its all peanuts/ nuts to be on the safe side. But the employee should had offered the plastic knife at least.
