My parents go to England a couple times a year on business, and my mom always brings back funny little gifts for my sister and me. Some of them are food, just unusual things that we have not seen before (bright green "Mushy Peas"!) or just some interesting novelties. She recently sent me a package of Bisto and said that many of their friends over there use it.

Does anybody use this? The box has directions for how to make beef gravy, but the descriptions says something about being a general thickener for soups and sauces. There's no meat in it; it's mostly potato starch. Inside the box is a bag of the powder, but there are no instructions outside of how to make beef gravy from a roast.

I make a lot of soups and stews and am interested in using Bisto. Do any of you like it? How much do I use?

Tried it numerous times in soup (beef Bisto). Doesn't do anything for me that a little extra corn starch can't do.

That's in soup.

I decided to use some (instead of starch) in a Shepperd's pie a few years back using it. Hit the spot, and hit it hard.
