When I get into a rut I either let one of the kids cook or grab one of my many cookbooks. I choose a recipe from it that I have never made then we decide if I will ever make it again after eating it.

LOL.....in my house we have a sign that says "Today's Menu......Take it or Leave it"

We don't cater to unreasonable whims........

Make a dart board out of a map of the world.

Throw a dart.

Make a dish that is native to the country your dart landed on

That happens with us sometimes. We (just the 2 of us) will eat all our meals at home for awhile and then our schedules change so we eat out for several meals. We get tired of eating out and go to the grocery together and see what looks good, stock up, cook together for awhile until our schedules change again and over, and over, over.

That could be dangerous...I can't hit the broad side of a barn with a large object Guess then I wouldn't have to cook...

Good suggestions all the way around though I need to get out of the box again...

I totally understand the rut thing!!! As I am the only one in the house who cooks, sometimes I just get plain tired of planning and cooking meals! DH is a meat and potatoes man, and is a picky eater - so Chinese is out, Mexican is out, etc.... And sometimes I just get tired of eating my own cooking.

So true Kats-after almost 42 years of cooking-plus before marriage-it at times becomes a job. It's the planning, shopping, trying to re-invent and we get brain fried.

I love the online meal planners. There are tons of them. I also get lots of ideas from this forum and a lot from Southern Living magazine and their website, which is like the Bible down here in the southeast. Southern Living is great if you are trying a recipe for the first time. I also like Cooking Light Magazine sometimes. It would probably be good for the figure if I liked it a lot more!

Luckily my husband will eat darn near anything, so when I get into a rut and decide eggs and toast for dinner, or sometimes just popcorn, my hubby doesn't complain. Of course he also knows that if he doesn't want what I cooked he can make his own.
