Cake, with good home-made frosting with real butter and icing sugar, not that thick sweet stuff you can buy.

Pie is good too as long as the crust is made with lard, NOT shortening. Nothing ruins a pie more than shortening. Lard gives it flavor and flakiness.

BTW, NO PUMPKIN PIE! GAG! Thick gooey texture and gross tasting IMO!

Cake, absolutely.

Unlike Allie from Hyperbole and a Half, I like the pie crust better than the pie filling, and the actual cake better than the frosting.

It's really a "It depends " answer. If I make it...cake. If we're out, pie. Pies seem to be much better at restaurants than cake. Restaurant cake is always too heavy, too gooey, too much... pies are just right, especially if you can a place that does half slices....

If we're out and menu says decadent cake...I get pie...

I prefer pie (peach, cherry, apple, blueberry, lemon, chocolate & coconut).

Another choice:

Candy.

That's my preference. I like cake and pie a LOT. But I LOVE certain kinds of CANDY.

If I couldn't have pie or cake for the rest of my life....meh. No problem. But no CANDY??? Oh noes!!!!

I have to go with pie. It's not that I don't like cake, but a lot of it is really bad.

Unlike cake or pie, what about butter tarts?

They are my ultimate favorite as long as there are no raisins and the inside is gooey but not runny. Ditto for Buttertart squares. MMmm!
