also, anything that is super messy to eat. like when you order shrimp and you get shrimp but its huge you have to dissect their tails and it's dripping in butter. too much!

Oh my How can you NOT like blueberry muffins?! Seriously, those are like my favorite things in the world! And personally I like the box stuff better than the homemade stuff (the blueberries are different, not so fruit-like).
Mole would be my choice. A savory sauce made with chilis and chocolate...sounds all kinds of complex. But the reality to me is nothing special. Not bad or anything, just nothing special. And in medium quality restaurants it's not only of medium quality but usually the plate is way oversauced to a huge moat of something less than special. I'll take a little bit in a chicken burrito, but even though it always looks so good on a menu--every single time--I stopped being tempted to order it specifically.
I really really want to like mole, but I don't. I don't enjoy chocolate in savory dishes. Some people add a little cocoa to their chili as well. I find the taste off-putting and sort of "burned," if that makes sense.

Totally! Hagen Daaz coffee ice cream is the best! But for some reason all the goodness of coffee comes out in the smell, not the taste, when you are making the beverage. I drink tea instead.

I know exactly what you mean, but that's the taste that I love in mole and chili (I always add cocoa). To me, its a deep, slightly bitter taste. I also happen to like coffee for the same reason, but I like mine the spanish way (super strong, then add milk).
Since I'm posting again, another dish I find overrated: baby back ribs. I grew up eating country-style ribs and when I tried my first rack, I learned it was almost no meat and I spent forever cutting tiny bits of meat off of the bone. why would I want to do that when I can have big meaty ribs? And country style ribs are WAY cheaper.
I LOVE the idea of coffee and tea (especially tea), I like the way it looks and I like the way people drink it, but I can't stomach either. Tea tastes like dirt to me, and coffee smells like dirty diapers.
