The local place by me is called Boh wah kitchen and from there I like:
Egg Rolls
spring Rolls
General Tsao's chicken
sweet and sour chicken
Chicken with mixed vegetables
Shrimp Lo-Mein
Vegetable Lo-mein
Boneless ribs
I used to live by Chinatown in Chicago. Grilled spicy orange chicken! Yum.
If I lived near a Chinatown, like we did when I was a kid in Los Angeles, I would be inclined to do take out a lot. I love good, authentic Chinese food, but it is rare unless you do live in a large metro area that is diverse.
Walnut prawns, number 1. There are stir fry mainstays but I don't really get excited over them, any more than I would over a burger. I always love, because I rarely with a group get to pick it, a salt and pepper squid.
My very favorite is lobster Cantonese, but that doesn't seem to exist out here in the desert.
I don't have a local favorite. I grew up eating NY-style "Chinese" food and even though I will choose something to have here, nothing really compares or excites me.
I usually go to China town for Dim Sum as its a lot more diversified than the local Chinese take out that Americanizes all its food and you end up with a meal where everything tastes the same, deep fried with sweet sauce with a side of Chowmein.
Lately i've been frequenting a little Asian place on the waterfront that just does everything right,
Tempura Shrimps with a side of Seafood Miso Soup.
I would like to know from you guys. What Asian food would you have to say is your favorite? What do you like and what do you hope to eat?
