Sorry I live in SE Florida. I'm not sure if any Publix Supermarkets in that area would carry those turnovers like the ones in my area do. Do you know if the plantains you had were thin sliced and fried, chips or tostones, made from green plantains, twice fried and usually served with mojo or maduros, made from ripe plantains and sweet?

They were more of a thick diagonal sliced chunk. I suspect from green, first time in a long time having Cuban food. It was the sandwich we wanted and won’t go back. Far from authentic. I found a Cuban bakery in Brandon that will not be a detour come next Thursday. Maybe the real deal with a sandwich to.

The other sandwich I love beside the Cubano is the Media Noche. It has the same fillings as the Cubano but the bread is like brioche. If you can get brioche buns where you live, they can be made at home. I'm sure you can find mojo or bottled naranja agria at local grocery stores in Tampa to take back home. I have a great recipe for the Cuban style pork used in the sandwiches. My favorite brand of store bought mojo is Kirby and it is called Mojo Criollo.

We should continue this in the food chat thread.

Today’s snacking treats will be various fresh fruits as the day progresses. To choose from I have fresh pears, peaches, mangoes, grapes, and oranges.
