We are doing ours a day later as hubby will be gone to work, but picking up some bigger shrimp, lobster tails grilled, asparagus, roasted red potatoes with onion, peppers, and probably some type of steak...I will cheat and buy a cheesecake sampler, and some spiked coffee or other beverage....Hope he appreciates me
Husband bought lobster tails and king crab legs to fix for me on Valentines Day.
He prefers steak so that's what he's having. We both will share though.
I am making broiled lobster tails and NY steak, baked potatoes and salad. Cooking at home saves so much money and the food is better too.
I don't know why steak, lobster, potatoes, etc. are so popular for Valentine's Day (or so expensive / in demand). Not very flavorful and very dull to me (especially lobster).
Honestly, I'd much rather prefer a chickpea or spinach-and-cheese curry (preferably both, and a samosa and burfi to finsh it off), or a onion-and-pepper utthappam (kind of like an Indian cross between a pancake and pizza).
I never liked lobster either, preferred crab legs, until I was in Alaska and learned how to cook...fantastic split in half, skewered and cook on the grill...they are like shrimp so be careful and don't overcook...kiss of death...I slather before grilling with a melted butter, garlic, couple splashes of hot sauce and serve with the same...I found for $5.99 for a 6-oz tail...got 3 so we each get one and wished for more Good-sized crab legs were $7.99/lb....
This year got a couple nice Lobster tails, (No. Aust), U-10 scallops(grilled), baked potato, fresh aspargus....Hawaiian cake, and and a nice white wine,(to be determined)..
Happy Valentines to ya'all.
Lobster's fine, but a little overrated (especially here, in the Midwest, where you have to fly it in). There's lots of things I'd rather have for a nice dinner. Lobster's kind of a big production for a small amount of food.
